Filled Under: Rumors 'n' News
On Dec. 13, 1971, John Lennon wrote a letter to New York City TV personality Joe Franklin regarding Yoko Ono’s music. “I know you’re a musician at heart and especially I know you dig jazz,” Lennon penned. “Yoko sits in the middle of avante-garde, classic, jazz — and now through me and my music — rock and roll!” Last week, that handwritten note was sold at auction for a whopping $28,171.33. See the first of the two-page note below:
This was not the only piece of rock memorabilia sold at Boston’s RR Auction. Lucky bidders got their hands on Dee Dee Ramone’s personally-owned and used bass guitar (sold for $37,694.48), an autographed copy of sheet music for Led Zeppelin’s all-time classic, ‘Stairway to Heaven’ ($13,035.23), a signed Muddy Waters publicity photo ($9,389.63), a Pink Floyd Fender Stratocaster with autographed pick guard ($5,897.15) and a Strat signed by Bob Dylan ($5,407.15) — among nearly 350 other historical and rare items. See the entire list here.
Item No. 472 grabbed our attention: a pair of Joey Ramone‘s glasses. As RR Auction describes, “Ramone’s sunglasses were a key part of his iconic punk rock look.” Paired with a letter of authenticity, the shades went for $12,426.40
These items were part of RR Auction’s ‘Marvels of Modern Music.’ Bidding closed Oct. 23.
