Melissa McCarthy Was Robbed at Gunpoint at Dry Cleaners: Watch Her Tell Jimmy Kimmel

Years before Melissa McCarthy was playing a police officer alongside Sandra Bullock in a big-budget comedy, she was a struggling young actor who was facing an entirely different kind of heat. 

The St. Vincent star, 44, stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday, Oct. 27, and opened up about the time that she was robbed as she was first trying to make it big in Hollywood when she "didn't have any money" and "didn't have a car." 

"I lived in Santa Monica -- my nice friend let me move into his studio, where we slept in his kitchen," McCarthy told Jimmy Kimmel. "I worked at Starbucks, I worked at the Y in Santa Monica, and I worked at a dry cleaners on like 3rd and Wilshire, where I was actually held up -- at 3:00 in the afternoon on Wilshire [Boulevard] and 3rd, which is like, sunny, and bright, and people are out walking." 

"I walk in and there was a guy behind the register," the actress continued. "I was like, 'Oh, that's weird! I wonder… he lost his ticket?' And then I see a gun and I was like 'Oh my god!' I couldn't… everything that you should say or do did not happen."

The robber went on to take McCarthy's personal belongings. 

"He had my backpack, which was like, my license, my keys, my makeup," she said. "I didn't have a dime, I was like, 'I can't replace mascara! I don't have any money!' I just kept crying and going, 'You have my bag! It has my makeup in it! You have my bag!'"
