Paramount is playing it safe by steering clear of a Sci-fi / Action-adventure behemoth.
Mission: Impossible 5 was originally slated to hit theaters on Christmas Day 2015.
Unfortunately, that’s a week after Star Wars: The Force Awakens blasts onto the big screens. Paramount Pictures apparently doesn’t want to compete with Star Wars, so they made a slight change to the release date of MI:5.
Alright, so maybe it’s a little more than a slight change. It’s been bumped up all the way to July, a whole five months earlier. It’ll instead be battling with the likes of Point Break, Selfless, and Southpaw. Paramount likely considers that to be a much easier competing roster.
Mission: Impossible has been a very consistent franchise, being a high earner for Paramount Pictures and for Tom Cruise. Entry number five will surely continue that trend, especially without a very crowded calender come this July.
