American parodist and satirist ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic looks set to include Australia in his massive 88-stop international tour kicking off in May.
‘Weird Al’ this week announced dates for the The Mandatory World Tour and hinted Australia and New Zealand could also be added to the current schedule, which will see the 55-year-old comedy veteran travel across the US, Canada and Europe between May and October.
“You may have noticed there are a few holes in my otherwise packed touring schedule,” Weird Al posted. “This is because some dates haven’t been completely confirmed (like the Australia / NZ dates), and some dates we’re not allowed to announce yet for various legal/contractual reasons.”
“All I can say is, please be patient… Don’t give up hope quite yet… There are still a few more 2015 tour dates to be announced,” he added.
In the midst of a huge career resurgence, Yankovic is hitting the road following last year’s No.1 US Billboard 200 release Mandatory Fun, his first No.1 comedy hit since 1963 and one of the top-selling comedy albums of the past decade.
‘Weird Al’ told MusicFeeds last year that an Australian tour was on the agenda.
“We’re talking about an Australian tour, we don’t know when that’s going to be but I’ve done three tours of Australia so far and I’ll love to do the next one as soon as possible,” he said last July. “We’re trying to make that happen for sure,”
